Pelvic misalignment and leg length discrepancy: Traditional Chinese medicine bone setting and repositioning to improve poor posture and postpartum lower back pain | Shangyitang

Common Causes of Pelvic Tilt

This condition mainly affects young women. Common causes include falling onto one side of the buttocks, causing the pelvis to become "dislocated." Additionally, hormonal imbalances during pregnancy and after childbirth can loosen the sacroiliac joint muscles in the pelvis. When subjected to impact, twisting, pulling, or incorrect posture while holding a child, the pelvis can become misaligned. Furthermore, poor sitting posture (e.g., crossing legs), frequently wearing high heels, or incorrect posture during exercise (e.g., stretching or meditation in yoga) can easily cause pelvic misalignment.

Clinical Symptoms of Pelvic Tilt

Patients walk with a limp, needing to hike up one hip while walking. Additionally, patients typically point to one side of the pelvis (the upper part of the outer buttocks) and indicate that the pain prevents them from sleeping.

During clinical examination, the patient's affected hip muscles are spastic and tender, with uneven and asymmetrical sacroiliac joints on both sides of the pelvis, and the affected area appears prominent. The legs are also uneven and asymmetrical, causing the lumbar muscles to become very tight, restricting lower limb movement. Bending over, turning, and lying supine also exacerbate the pain. If left untreated, this condition can lead to headaches, widespread neck and back pain, and limping.

TCM Bone Setting and Acupuncture Treatment Plan

1. Acupuncture Treatment: Anti-inflammatory and Pain Relief

Acupuncture at specific points can effectively reduce muscle spasms and inflammation in the lower back and hips, alleviating pain.

2. Manual Therapy: Bone Setting and Spinal Realignment

Professional bone setting and spinal manipulation techniques are used to realign the shifted or tilted pelvis and adjust the bone structure.

3. Chinese Herbal Medicine: Internal Conditioning for Liver and Spleen

Cooperating with internal Chinese herbal medicine (such as Shugan Jianpi Wan) to regulate the body's constitution and promote repair of the affected area.

Daily Recommendations for Improving Pelvic Tilt

Friendly reminder: Rest more, stop strenuous exercise, and correct poor posture. Apply heat to the affected area more often, and do "strengthening exercises" to strengthen the hip and spinal muscles to maintain normal and stable lumbar function.
