Medical Journey
The Clinical Path of Dr. Cheung Wing
Dr. Cheung Wing's clinical path began with Lingnan school of Traditional Chinese Medicine training at Jinan University's College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Guangzhou. After formal academic training, he focused primarily on pain management and orthopedics.
His manual techniques draw from two main sources: one is Lingnan Foshan traumatology; the other is Professor Long Ceng-hua's spinal manipulation techniques, the essence of which he combines with modern human anatomy for evaluating spine-related pain. In terms of acupuncture, he emphasizes "needle qi arrival and tonifying-reducing needling techniques," applying "burning mountain fire and penetrating heaven cool" based on the patient's condition, and using retained needles, fast needling, and electroacupuncture for various situations.
Clinically, Dr. Cheung Wing's principle is "diagnosis first, then treatment": in addition to the four diagnostic methods, he employs his own set of palpation procedures. When necessary, he refers to the patient's X-ray or MRI reports before deciding on the combination of techniques to use. He compiled his clinical observations into "The Complete Guide to Pain Management" and also teaches classes at SYT Wellness, passing on his knowledge of Lingnan Traditional Chinese Medicine, Foshan orthopedics, acupuncture, and Tui Na techniques.

1993
Established practice in Hong Kong, initially at a clinic on Temple Street, Jordan, gaining wide support from locals and celebrities. With numerous consultations, eighty percent of patients sought treatment for various types of pain.
40+ Years of Clinical Practice
Deeply rooted in urban pain management and traumatology, combining the essence of Lingnan Foshan traumatology with Professor Long Ceng-hua's spinal manipulation techniques, treating over 50,000 cases annually.

The Relationship Between Wing Chun Lineage and His Techniques
In the 1980s, Dr. Cheung Wing apprenticed under Foshan Wing Chun Grandmaster Cen Neng for about thirty years, receiving the true inheritance of his teachings. This apprenticeship directly influenced his manual techniques.
The force application of Foshan Wing Chun's bridge arm techniques was integrated into Long's orthopedic reduction methods, forming what he calls "medicine and martial arts combined" – the direction, depth, and control of force align with the same principles as martial arts: guiding with the flow, rather than resisting directly. This makes his orthopedic and traumatology techniques distinct from textbook operations.
He also authored two martial arts treatises, "The Official History of Wing Chun Kuen" and "Authentic Foshan Wing Chun Kuen," inheriting the traditional Lingnan Foshan medical-martial arts culture and becoming one of the few TCM practitioners in Hong Kong with a dual lineage in medicine and martial arts. A 2013 interview by Sing Tao Daily, "Cheung Wing — The Wing Chun Benevolent Doctor," provides an in-depth account of this.

Is the Tui Na service personally performed by Dr. Cheung Wing?
No. Tui Na services are performed by professional Tui Na therapists at SYT Wellness, not personally by Dr. Cheung Wing. Dr. Cheung Wing's personal consultations focus on acupuncture, orthopedic spinal adjustments, traditional bone-setting, traumatology, and internal/external herbal medicine treatments. To book Tui Na services, please contact the clinic for separate arrangements. For details, see the Tui Na Services page.
What should I prepare for my first consultation?
It is recommended to bring: ① identification documents; ② relevant imaging reports (X-ray or MRI, if any); ③ a list of medications you are currently taking and any allergy records; ④ observations about your pain condition: when it started, which movements or postures worsen it, whether the pain radiates to your arms or legs, and details about your daily work and sitting posture. No referral letter is required for the first consultation; simply book an appointment at the Wan Chai clinic.
What are Dr. Cheung Wing's consultation fees?
Dr. Cheung Wing's (designated practitioner) fees are calculated per item: Consultation HK$300; Consultation plus prescription (without dispensing medicine at the clinic) HK$400. Traumatology, bone-setting, and acupuncture (including orthopedic reduction): single area (neck, lower back, shoulder, back) HK$600; neck and lower back or multiple areas, sciatica HK$800; additional areas HK$200 each. Please note that Tui Na services are provided by other Tui Na therapists at SYT Wellness, not personally by Dr. Cheung Wing. Tui Na fees are HK$330 for 30 minutes, HK$550 for 50 minutes, and HK$660 for 60 minutes. For complete and up-to-date prices, please see the Consultation Fees page.
What are Dr. Zhang Yong's clinical specialties?
Dr. Zhang Yong's clinical specialties include: acupuncture (e.g., "burning mountain fire" and "penetrating heaven cool" manipulation methods), osteopathy and spinal adjustment (integrating Lingnan Foshan bone-setting with Professor Long Chenghua's spinal treatment methods), traumatic injuries (sprains, strains, traumatic bone injuries), internal Chinese herbal medicine, and external herbal applications. He primarily treats common urban pain conditions such as: lower back pain, neck pain, sciatica, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, knee pain, headaches and migraines, and sports injuries. Tui Na services are provided separately by SYT Wellness Tui Na therapists and are not personally administered by Dr. Zhang Yong.
Are the charges the same at both clinics?
The charges are consistent at both the Wan Chai and Jordan clinics. However, Dr. Zhang Yong only consults at Wan Chai. If you wish to be treated by Dr. Zhang Yong, please book a slot at the Wan Chai clinic (WhatsApp 5427 3297, Tel 2736 7473).
Is bone setting performed every time?
No. Bone setting is only performed if deemed appropriate after evaluation. The cost of traumatic injury acupuncture already includes bone setting and spinal adjustment, which will be performed as needed based on the doctor's assessment. If the condition is unsuitable, other techniques or internal/external herbal applications will be used. Patients do not need to request or refuse specific techniques; Dr. Zhang Yong will decide the most suitable combination based on his assessment.
Under what circumstances should I seek emergency care or Western medicine first, instead of Chinese medicine?
If you have obvious trauma, suspected fracture or dislocation, persistent severe pain, incontinence, or progressive lower limb weakness, you should immediately call 999 or go to the emergency room, and not arrange for manual therapy first. Dr. Zhang Yong's principle is "diagnosis first, then treatment": he combines the four diagnostic methods with palpation, and if necessary, refers to X-ray or MRI reports before deciding on the treatment method. If you already have imaging reports, please bring them with you when seeking consultation.
Should I see a Chinese medicine practitioner or a chiropractor for neck pain?
Their assessment perspectives and techniques differ and are not mutually exclusive. SYT Wellness has a dedicated article "Chinese Medicine vs. Chiropractic for Neck Pain?" that provides a detailed comparison; it is recommended to read it before deciding. In terms of Chinese medicine, Dr. Zhang Yong first diagnoses through the four diagnostic methods and palpation, then combines acupuncture, bone setting, or traumatic injury techniques as appropriate. The treatment method is not a fixed package.
Are there any first-time consultation trial offers?
SYT Wellness offers a $488 first-time pain treatment trial consultation. For details, please refer to the First-Time Trial page. The specific items included, applicable branches, and payment methods are subject to confirmation on that page and by the clinic.
How can I book an appointment with Dr. Zhang Yong?
You can book an appointment through the following methods: ① WhatsApp 5427 3297 (Wan Chai); ② Phone 2736 7473; ③ Official website online booking page. When booking, please specify that you wish to be treated by Dr. Zhang Yong and state the location and duration of your pain to arrange a suitable time slot.
