Urban Pain Guide
Urban Pain Guide | SYT Wellness TCM Pain Management Overview
Urban living often brings various pains such as lower back pain, neck pain, radiating sciatica discomfort, stiff shoulders and neck, stiff neck upon waking, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, knee pain, headaches/migraines, and sports injuries (sprains, strains). SYT Wellness is led by registered Chinese medicine practitioner, Dr. Zhang Yong (with over 40 years of clinical experience), offering comprehensive assessments including acupuncture, Tui Na massage, bone setting, and dit da (traditional Chinese osteopathy and traumatology) at our Wan Chai and Jordan clinics. This guide focuses on major pain conditions and their respective treatment pages, allowing you to understand the approach before deciding whether to book an appointment. The content is for general educational purposes only and cannot substitute individual diagnosis, nor does it guarantee a "complete cure."

When should you seek emergency/Western medical care first? (General Red Flags)
Most urban pain conditions due to overuse are suitable for TCM assessment. However, if any of the following situations occur, please prioritize seeking emergency or Western medical care:
- Severe pain after trauma, suspected fracture/dislocation/internal injury
- Loss of bowel/bladder control, saddle anesthesia, progressive lower limb weakness
- Unexplained fever, night sweats, rapid weight loss
- Chest pain, difficulty breathing, or pain sensation significantly different from typical musculoskeletal pain
- Rapid worsening of joint redness, swelling, heat, and pain, or signs of skin breakdown and infection
Please also refer to the more specific red flag descriptions on each pain condition page.
How does SYT Wellness treat urban pain?
The core principle is to diagnose first, then treat: understand the triggers, course of illness, restricted activities, and body constitution, then combine acupuncture, Tui Na, bone setting, or Dit Da, avoiding a one-size-fits-all approach. The goal is to alleviate pain, improve mobility, and help you return to a manageable daily rhythm – without guaranteeing a fixed number of sessions or a complete cure.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which pain condition page should I look at first?
Based on the main area that bothers you most: for lower back/radiating leg pain, check the lower back pain or sciatica page; for severely restricted shoulder movement, check frozen shoulder; for morning heel pain, check plantar fasciitis; for knee pain, check the knee pain page; for headaches, check the headache/migraine page; for sprains and strains, check the sports injury page. If unsure, you can directly book an appointment for a physician's assessment.
Does TCM pain management promise a complete cure?
No. We provide assessment and practical treatment directions. Improvement varies from person to person, and we will recommend referral to a Western doctor if red flag symptoms appear.
Can products replace seeking medical consultation?
No. Clinic-formulated external creams or health products are only for daily auxiliary reference. Acute or persistent pain should still be evaluated through an in-person consultation.
