Cheung Yung: The Miracle Needle of the Crane

Dr. Cheung Yung's clinic is located in the working-class neighborhood at the entrance of Temple Street in Jordan. Yet, thanks to his exceptional medical skills, many celebrities, prominent figures, senior government officials, and legislators willingly venture into this grassroots area to seek his treatment, becoming loyal devotees. As a result, luxury cars are constantly seen parked outside his clinic.

Reportedly, Dr. Cheung's celebrity clients include Andy Lau, Daniel Wu, Rosamund Kwan, and the couple Bao Qijing and Fong Chung-sun. Specializing in orthopedics and traumatology, he most frequently treats celebrities seeking relief from sprains, falls, and musculoskeletal strain injuries. Among notable figures, this publication has learned that former senior official Frederick Ma Si-hang, during his years in government service, suffered from chronic neck and shoulder pain that no treatment could resolve. Upon the recommendation of Legislative Council member Sophie Leung Lau Yau-fun, he visited Dr. Cheung's clinic for intensive acupuncture and massage therapy. After six months of treatment, his condition was completely cured. Ma not only presented a plaque inscribed with "Exceptional Medical Skills" in gratitude but also widely recommended Dr. Cheung to his political colleagues. Consequently, numerous officials and legislators became his patients.

Lineage from Wing Chun Masters

In an exclusive interview with this publication, Dr. Cheung, approximately fifty years old, trained under Sham Nang, a successor of the Wing Chun school. He began studying medicine at eighteen, primarily learning bone-setting and trauma treatment. He later formally studied TCM Orthopedics and Traumatology at Jinan University School of Medicine in Guangzhou. He came to Hong Kong in the late 1980s and has been practicing for over twenty years. His treatment methods include acupuncture, massage, cupping, and herbal medicine therapy—a comprehensive approach addressing both internal and external conditions.

Dr. Cheung also claims he can treat severe cases that even Western medicine cannot resolve. For instance, in 2007, a CLP employee suffered a work-related injury, falling from five stories high and sustaining critical injuries. After remaining in a coma for twenty days, he was left paralyzed from the waist down. Western doctors diagnosed spinal necrosis and declared the case hopeless. However, after approximately two years of herbal medicine therapy and acupuncture meridian treatment by Dr. Cheung, the patient has nearly fully recovered.

Recently, this publication also discovered that new mother Suki Chui (Tsui Suk-man) is among Dr. Cheung's patients. That day, she visited the clinic with her husband Wong Ho for treatment. The reporter overheard her describing her condition to the doctor, complaining of frequent postpartum fatigue and lower back pain. "I want to have another baby soon, but how can I carry a child if my back isn't sorted out?" After examination, Dr. Cheung diagnosed that Suki's back pain was caused by ligament laxity due to hormonal changes from her previous pregnancy, compounded by chronic poor posture leading to spinal misalignment in the lumbar and cervical regions, resulting in persistent fatigue and back pain.

Strengthening the Back to Prepare for Pregnancy

Dr. Cheung first had Suki lie prone on the treatment bed to receive his massage and spinal adjustment, followed by acupuncture to open meridians throughout her body. Suki was seen with over a dozen needles inserted in her head and neck for approximately fifteen minutes, after which the clinic's specialized shockwave acupoint therapy device was used on her neck and back to stimulate meridian flow. The entire treatment session took about an hour and a half. It is understood that with just two such sessions per week, Suki can successfully "strengthen her back" and improve her overall health within two to three months, making pregnancy absolutely feasible.

On the day the reporter photographed Suki's visit, Legislative Council member Tommy Cheung Yu-yan also happened to be seeking treatment at the same location. The reporter observed that he, like any ordinary patient, had to queue and wait his turn, demonstrating that Dr. Cheung treats all patients equally, regardless of their status or position.
